Wild Atlantic Adventure with Travelodge Limerick Ennis Road- The Bailie Family

We were so happy to welcome Stephen, Samantha, Abby and Shannon - the lovely Bailie Family who stayed with us for 4 nights in Limerick Ennis Road to explore the Wild Atlantic Way and visit all that Limerick, Kerry & Clare had to offer as part of our Re-discover Ireland Staycation offer for €189. Read on to learn about their experiences and get their top tips for things to see and do during your staycation in Limerick and the Wild Atlantic Way.
When booking a staycation in Ireland, there is lots of things to consider, value and safety being at the fore-front, especially now. Thankfully, Travelodge Ireland was able to offer both with their Staycation offer of €189 for 4 nights and their Failte Ireland accreditation along with their Travelodge Protect+ Programme. We opted for Limerick Ennis Road as we had planned a 5-day schedule around exploring the Wild Atlantic Way and this meant we needed to be close to Limerick, Kerry & Clare.

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Des Hynes who is the General Manager and senior receptionist Ciara. Immediately we felt very welcome and confident, as both were knowledgeable on the area and things to do. Both were actual limerick locals too! Great first impression and helpful people with lots of information on the area and some great ideas for our Wild Atlantic way tour.
We were also very impressed with how everything was here regarding rooms. Our family room was spacious, included a large king-sized double bed and the girls had two single pull-out beds. It was great to have a comfortable room to go back to after a day of exploration.
Things we would recommend seeing & doing while in Limerick
Famous BBC broadcaster and Limerick native born Terry Wogan statue which can be found at Poor Man's Kilkee on the River Shannon quayside
King Johns Castle - this can be found along River Shannon. The kids loved seeing the castle and hearing the stories.
Milk Market - we visited here on the Saturday. We found a local bread producer with delicious bread right out of the oven!
Westfields Wetlands Limerick - this was a great spot for a family picnic.
Boskill Caherconlish Equestrian Centre - Abby and Shannon love horses. They did a 2-hour horse riding lesson and as it was the Friday, they were taken out for a mountain ride.
Bunratty Castle and Folk Village
Funworld - so close to the hotel, with so many great activities. We went here a few evenings, they have bowling, snooker/ Pool and lots of arcade games.
Shake Dog - this was Travelodge Limerick onsite Diner. Amazing sundaes and burgers!
Things we would recommend outside of Limerick – exploring the Wild Atlantic Way.
The Shannon Estuary Way driving route had lots of landscapes from the west of limerick.
Further west, just over the Kerry border in Tarbert, we boarded the Shannon Ferry for the short crossing to Killimer in County Clare. While crossing, the girls had spotted some bottlenose dolphins that live in the waters of the estuary.
Loop Head - make sure to look out for the Loophouse lighthouse, Loop Head was one of a handful of places along the Wild Atlantic Way used to film Star Wars: The Last Jedi .
The Burren & the Cliffs of Moher - this has one of the longest cave systems in Ireland. You could spend a day here exploring the Burren National Park and the Carron Nature Reserve.

Final verdict:
We have done family stays before but not since lockdown had happened. Travelodge Limerick Ennis Road was a great spot to be able to access all the things we wanted to do. Fantastic value for the 4 nights and for the four of us.
